Tony Blair’s Secret Nights With Another Man’s Wife Led To Her Divorce

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair has been accused of being involved in a dalliance with another man’s wife – Wendi Deng, 43, – which caused her marriage of fourteen years to fail.

This revelation which was adapted in “Broken Vows: Tony Blair — The Tragedy Of Power”, was written by Tom Bower. The book spills the beans on how Mrs Deng Murdoch was smitten by Mr Blair, forgetting she was married and even lied to her husband, Rupert Murdoch, several times so she could have privacy for her clandestine affair with the Brit.

Murdoch who is the billionaire owner of ‘News Corporation’ media group, maintained friendship with Blair even after he left office. In 2011, Blair began visiting China – the native home of Mrs Wendi Deng – for business trips but when that didn’t fall through, he still remained friends with Mr Murdoch’s wife, discreetly. The next year, 2012, Blair visited Wendi twice in her matrimonial home and spent the night.

The day Blair visited her at Murdoch’s property in California, Mrs Murdoch had told her tycoon husband she was “staying at the ranch with a girlfriend”; she never disclosed to her husband she would be meeting Tony Blair. Truth was, her friend had visited earlier but had left before the former PM’s arrival. Wendi also instructed her staff to ‘make themselves scarce’ and Blair’s private security was lodged in a hotel close by.

While in London in June 2013, Rupert Murdoch and his wife hosted a private dinner for family and friends; that dinner was a pre-divorce party which Wendi had no idea about. Murdoch had grown weary of Wendi’s bluntness, her insistence on speaking her mother-tongue Chinese in his presence, her constant disappearance at parties as well as the countless trips she seemed to always have with her Chinese friends. Their 14-year marriage was through as far as Murdoch was concerned.

As if those were not enough reason, the straw that broke the figurative camel’s back was the uncovering of certain emails which showed she, Wendi, had personal relationships with three men while still married. One was a tennis coach in Carmel, the second was the founder of Google, Eric Schmidt and the third with Tony Blair.

These mails were discovered when the Metropolitan Police began investigating certain activities which involved phone-hacking at one of Murdoch’s media companies. Sifting through over a million mails on his company computers, Wendi’s mails were unearthed. One of his son’s had to show aged-Murdoch the truth.
The letters which have been classified as un-entertaining had Deng write: ‘Oh s***, oh s***. Whatever why I’m so so missing Tony. Because he is so charming and his clothes are so good. He has such a good body and he had his really, really good legs Butt [sic] . . . and he is slim tall and good skin. Pierce blue eyes which I love. Love his eyes. Also I love his power on the stage . . . and what else what else what else . . .’
Blair had met Deng in New York, London and Beijing according to messages retrieved.

Proceeding the shocking information, Murdoch interviewed staff at his California home and gathered details on what occurred that night including the fact that Blair had stayed over on April 27, 2013. More information included ‘the couple feeding each other during their meals, and Blair had also been spotted joining Deng in her bedroom and closing the door’.
The same day the divorce was finalized, Tony called Murdoch attempting to convince him he was innocent. The billionaire listened to the ex-PM air his side in a brief conversation after which he quit taking anymore calls from the ex-PM.

Blair still kept in touch with Wendi Deng. In August 2015, they were both spotted alone at a Mayfair club.

While they were both denying the allegations, Murdoch continuously ridiculed Blair’s denials which caused global damage to Blair’s reputation, muddled his character and wrecked his Faith Foundation.
Tim Collins, an American billionaire who was on the board of Blair’s foundation as well as giving it considerable sums of money stated he was so appalled at Tony Blair and the entire story he had to withdraw his support and finance. He said: ‘The Wendi Murdoch affair put me off. The real man was revealed. He’s incapable of self-criticism. I felt so naïve.’

The drama also affected Blair’s role as Middle East’s peace envoy.
