At Least 21 Dead After Multiple Explosions Rocked Brussels Airport

A deadly explosion has rocked Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
About twenty-one people have been reported dead with more than 35 wounded after two bomb packages went off in the departure hall of at Zaventem airport.

One near the Brussels Airlines desk and another near the American Airlines desk, reports Belgian media.
Also reports have it that there was an explosion at Maelbeek metro stations close to the city’s EU institutions. Following this, the Brussels metro tweeted to say the entire system has been shut down.

As at now, the Brussels airport has been shut down as well as the city’s bus, tram and metro systems.
The Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel, in a press conference, confirmed that there were two attacks in Brussels this morning – one at Zaventem airport and the other at Maelbeek metro station.
Mr Michel said many people were killed and many wounded.

He confirmed that the airport attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
He said authorities were evaluating the threat and that additional security measures were being put in place, including military enforcements over border control.

Reports on the death toll have varied. A spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade earlier told the AFP news agency that 21 people had died.
